Voluntary Student Unionism - The impact on student participation
Overview of evidence on levels of engagement and participation
Student participation, as measured by number of students in clubs, is down post-VSU. There is reduced sales activity on campus in many, but by no means all, areas where there have been particularly large price increases post-VSU in campus services.
Funding for orientation weeks is in general down but there have not been any good sector wide measures available of the numbers of students attending things such as open days and orientation weeks.
At this stage on-campus sales activity and student club memberships have been seen as the best proxies for levels of engagement.
